The first Monaco Grand Prix was organised by Anthony Noghes, a cigarette manufacturer and resident of Monte Carlo, who became founding president of the "Automobile Club de Monaco", an institution responsible for the event under the auspices of Prince Louis II of Monaco. The Automobile Club de Monaco still organises the Monaco Grand Prix today.
